Tournament Plans Proceed
I had a chance to be involved in two disc golf tournament planning meetings and the preparation for the Slosh Series #2 event this week. It is exciting to see such a dedicated group of people eager to make these tournaments achieve an even more professional level than we have seen in the past. Who would have thought that a January disc golf touranment would draw over 100 players? It just goes to show how quickly our sport is growing. Take a look at the PDGA article on the growth of our sport as evidenced at the Outdoor Trade Show.
This year's two biggest Portland area events, the Beaver State Fling (largest on the west coast), and the Rose City Open promise to be more popular than ever. Registrations for the Beaver State Fling filled at a record pace and the Rose City Open filled as well last year. If you would like to help with planning or volunteering for either or both of these events please contact us. Even if you aren't a competitive player there is much to learn from being around skilled players and the opportunity to help grow our sport in the eyes of the public is great.
We continue to look at new ways to partner with businesses and organizations as we put on these tournaments. The February Slosh event will be the first event with a title sponsor, the Rose City Open will most likely have the same title sponsor as last year, and we are looking at partnering with a non-profit family support organization in the St. Johns area for the Rose City Open this year.
